You Are The Angel: United for Ukraine from the First Day of War

Mark Lieber - Volunteer

When the war in Ukraine began, You Are The Angel didn’t wait to plan — we acted. From the very first day, our women-owned, nonprofit shifted its focus to provide life-saving help where it was needed most. What started as a small team of volunteers quickly became a nationwide network in Ukraine of over 100 partners and local organizations working across Kyiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Kiev, and beyond. Together, we reached the most vulnerable families, children, and elderly people — often in areas that were cut off from traditional aid routes.

Hundreds of thousands of people, especially women and children, have been forced to evacuate Ukraine due to the escalating conflict. Loved ones have been left behind as they flee to safety over huge distances. Many people have no idea where they’ll sleep the next night. We are collecting resources to provide shelter, food, basic medical supplies, drinking water and psychosocial support.

We are not taking any side, we are helping people. We are calling everyone who cares and is able to help, to join and support financially or physically. We are working 24 hours a day, so that a peaceful sky will soon be shining over Ukraine!

Angels on the Ground

Every success story began with a partnership — a volunteer driver, a local nurse, a farmer rescuing a dog, a teacher turning her home into a shelter. These everyday heroes became the angels of Ukraine. Together, we delivered not only aid, but also hope, comfort, and the message that no one was forgotten.

From flooded villages after the Kakhovka Dam collapse to shelters in Mykolaiv and Kherson filled with rescued families and animals, our angels worked tirelessly — proving that compassion can travel farther than conflict.

Through our ground partners, we:

  • Delivered food, clean water, and medical aid to hospitals, shelters, and families in active war zones.

  • Supported children’s hospitals and clinics, including Ohmatdyt Hospital in Kyiv, with equipment and medications.

  • Funded evacuation and rescue missions, saving countless women, children, and elderly citizens from danger.

  • Donated generators and heating systems to hospitals and shelters during power outages and harsh winters.

  • Supplied building materials and home repair support to help families rebuild after bombings and floods.

  • Partnered with Help Kherson, Water for Mykolaiv, Rebuild Ukraine Initiative, and many others to sustain local relief missions.

  • Organized and funded animal rescue operations, helping to save and relocate hundreds of abandoned and injured animals left behind in war zones — from pets and livestock to shelter animals needing urgent evacuation.
